Quality materials available close to construction sites has always been a priority in civil engineering works.

AUDABRAM's Grès de Carcassonne quarry answers that requirement. It was worked way back in the Middle Ages.

"Using wooden wedges and mallets the quarrymen broke out the great blocks from the rock mass.
The stone was hauled up laboriously from the quarry bottom, secured with ropes, and using winches and pulleys or rollers, blocks sometimes weighing up to 500 kg were brought out."

The principal rock bed visible today is very ancient, some 55 million years old. The strength of the material has stood the test of time - far longer than man has been on this earth !

Today's working is subject to conditions of maximum safety, with the quarrymen's work simplified and easier thanks to machines that saw, drill, detach and handle the blocks of rock.

Well organised and inspected rigorously, the quarry is operated with the utmost respect for the environment.

Here, we only use what is strictly necessary...

Nature is respected all-year-round: both during and between extraction periods the preservation of plant and animal life is our constant concern.
